Built to rethink modern energy units

Traditional energy storage systems are often bulky, under- or over-engineered, inefficient and expensive. Peaktron was founded to change that. We are an Irish startup initiative implementing radical new ideas in how modern energy units are built, optimized and deployed.

5 years of deep research

Before Peaktron reached the market, founder Vitaly Shafar spent over five years working with critical power demands and researching a single challenge: how to make an energy unit more efficient without reducing its power and stability — using software intelligence, fast measurement and practical hardware innovation.

The breakthrough came from looking at electricity not as a monthly number on a bill or daily consumption figure, as most traditional ESSs do, but as a real-time live electrical waveform being consumed here and now. In a 50 Hz AC system, one full electrical cycle takes just 20 milliseconds. Peaktron analyses energy behaviour every half-cycle — every 10 milliseconds — fast enough to see motor starts, load spikes, reactive-power swings and tiny changes in consumption as they happen. As a result, site load noise is no longer just noise; it becomes an open book, a fully readable pattern. This allows the Peaktron ESS to react even before energy losses begin.

Peaktron’s sensing device — the smart distribution board — is an organic part of the ESS itself: the sensing and decision-support layer of the system’s main brain. It gives the energy unit visibility into what is connected, how each device behaves, and when power is needed. The software learns the real consumption pattern of the site — from heavy motor loads down to small auxiliary devices — and understands when power is being used productively, when it is peaking unnecessarily, and when reactive power should be compensated.

Every electrical load has two sides: active power, which performs real work, and reactive power, which many motors and inductive devices need to create magnetic fields. Both affect the way a site consumes power. If they are not managed properly, generators work harder, cables carry unnecessary current, voltage becomes less stable, and energy is wasted through poor power behaviour.

Peaktron’s smart software and hardware allow the ESS to act intelligently: delivering active power when a load needs real work, supporting or compensating reactive power when motors demand magnetic energy, smoothing sudden peaks, stabilising the supply, and balancing grid, generator and storage in real time.

The result is a smarter energy system that can further reduce fuel use, lower peak demand, improve power quality and help avoid oversizing generators — while still delivering the required power to the right part of the site at the right moment.

In simple terms: Peaktron gives the ESS sharp eyes, sensitive ears and a very smart brain. It sees what each connected load is asking for, understands the difference between useful power and wasted electrical burden, and responds with the exact support needed to keep the site running cleaner, smoother and more efficiently.

Precision down to a fraction of a watt

A major part of our research focused on custom smart distribution boards and integrated software/hardware stacks. Our systems are designed to be sensitive enough to measure a small LED load running on a massive megawatt-scale ESS unit.
